Prof. Hu Guangwei

Guangwei Hu is Professor of Language and Literacy Education in the Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include academic discourse, English for specific purposes, English for academic purposes, and second language writing. He has published extensively on these and other areas in refereed journals and edited volumes. He is co-editor of Journal of English for Academic Purposes and serves on the editorial boards for several other academic journals including English for Specific Purposes; Language, Culture and Curriculum; Publications; and Journal of English for Research Publication Purposes.

University of Auckland, New Zealand

John Read is an emeritus professor in the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. He retired in 2019 after a lengthy career teaching Applied Linguistics, TESOL and EAP at Auckland and before that at Victoria University of Wellington, the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre in Singapore, the University of Texas-El Paso and Indiana University. He has specialised in language testing and assessment, with particular interests in vocabulary assessment and the testing of English for academic and professional purposes. His authored books are Assessing Vocabulary (Cambridge, 2000) and Assessing English Proficiency for University Study (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015). He has also edited Post-admission Language Assessment of University Students (Springer, 2016) and co-edited Assessing Academic Literacy in a Multilingual Society: Transition and Transformation (Multilingual Matters, 2021). From 2002 to 2006 he was co-editor of the international research journal Language Testing, and he served as Vice-President (2009-2010) and then President (2011-2012) of the International Language Testing Association (ILTA).
